The start, the journey, and where we are headed.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

May 1979: "The groundbreaking ceremony was held on a hot day in May.  The chairman of the building committee did a good job getting the grading started.  (about the only work he did on the project!)"

"...4 acres were bought from Chet Simmons in May 1979", because the "Little White Chapel" was becoming a bit too  small for the growing  congregation of the Wesleyan Church Of The Valley (Sweetwater).

People gathered outdoors, participating in a memorial or solemn event, with some laying flowers on the ground in a rural area.

AN HISTORIC MOVE

"The little white church, a home for many of the Bonita faithful, had been built in 1915 as a Quaker Meeting Hall".  In 1964 it became the home church for The Wesleyan Church Of The Valley and was transported across the valley in 1980.

THE ROAD SO FAR

Much like in the days of old, Sweetwater continues to thrive as Bonita's community church and neighborhood gathering place. Several groups and ministries of the Southbay community call Sweetwater their home. From youth groups to homeschool groups, karate and music classes, missions and outreaches, authentic relationships are built here and grown together as believers in Jesus Christ.

WHERE WE ARE HEADED

We are on an intentional path of becoming a multi-generational, multi-cultural, and family church in both theory and practice. We envision a come as you are church where being vulnerable and having honest & difficult conversations are allowed and encouraged. We are tired of performance & program driven church. Instead, we are seeking to impact people by building relationships within our church and community, which allow people to see and understand the person and Godhead of Jesus. His Spirit alone has the power to radically transform lives and bring peace within people and the crazy world in which we live.
